Below is a logo that I redesigned for a client. He was looking for a revamped look to the original design, done by another designer. I ran with it, and in a few hours, had this as a final product for him in his email. He was on a very tight deadline as this logo had to be to the printers so that he could get them back to attach to products that he had waiting to ship. The blue one on the left is the original, my new one is on the right in black.

All colors were united for the moments after the dust settled [after 9/11]. Then we were unprepared for what happened next.

Ok, so maybe the nuclear explosion seems a bit over the top, but it will help emphasize my point as you read on. I am sure you are just as sick of the impending doom that has been constantly held over our heads throughout the past few years, in particular in 2008. We have had a roller coaster ride over the past 7 years, really. I mean, didn’t all of this start with 9/11? Not to be cliché, but those attacks changed us, forever. We have been a nation going through post traumatic stress syndrome ever since. We have had extreme reactions to all of this. Ultimate highs, and now, impending lows.

Don’t misunderstand what I am saying, I am not blaming just the attacks here. Our government has done nothing to aide in the healing process. We were all ready to show the terrorists that we could not be knocked down for long. What they did only made us flinch momentarily. We stood back up, we stood tall and arm in arm. All colors were united for the moments after the dust settled. Then we were unprepared for what happened next. We were on a high from getting back up. Our economy took a temporary dip and then we came back swingin. The housing industry alone was kickin ass and taking names. We were feeling the rush of not being beaten. But for some reason our government would not let up on reminding us of imminent future attacks. Every night on the news, virtually any channel, the Terror Alerts. You began to memorize the colors and their meanings. It got so old, so fast. What were they doing? Warning us, of what? Showing us they had it under control? Or fear mongering? It seems to me, and many others, there was a misdirection play afoot. Keep us so focused on our own fears of what tomorrow brings we won’t see the play that is really being run.

I know I have pointed the finger at our government thus far, and there is another culprit in this fiasco, the media. They saw an opportunity to make a quick, and big, buck. We all know that disaster spells ratings, and their ratings were through the roof during all of this. They fed us, hell, they still feed us the terrible news from around the world. This may not be completely bad. Most Americans have been naive to the rest of the world until now. Now we know how good we have it. But it doesn’t make the pain hurt any less. We just kept getting hit over, and over, and over. Katrina, hell multiple hurricanes in Florida, fires in California, mudslides; all there on our big screen LCD TV’s that we got a great deal on at Wal-Mart. Holy crap, don’t forget “An Inconvenient Truth,” the reminder of how bad we are. I believe in being responsible, but that has got people scared to death now too. We have been killing the damn planet and it may be too late.

Later on others saw the bait potential in their industries as well. Mortgage companies were feeding on the new found freedom that all of us were experiencing; the freedom from terror. We all started foaming at the mouth to own a piece of that freedom and they wanted to help us get it, no matter the cost. Lenders were giving money away, to anyone. How, you ask? Because they figured out how to make money on loans they knew would default. They lent money to people counting on the fact that they would default. This is called predatory lending. Very few banks were ever truly nailed for the act. I say truly because most received a slap on the wrist in comparison to the billions they were raking in and would continue to rake in. This was a scenario of “better to ask forgiveness than permission” if you ask me. Hell, auto makers were making tantalizing deals with “Employee Pricing.” My ass. We have always been told, “buy my product, it is the best.” But the corporations have become real damn good at making the consumer believe that they “Need” the next gen iPod, Wii, LCD, computer, etc. If you can name it, you need it.

So, what about that gloomy image above of the nuclear blast? Simply put, America is a time bomb waiting to hit zero. We have had it forced down our throats that we might be in a recession down to the point that we finally hit the floor and are in an actual recession. Unfortunately, it is not up from here. The next Big Depression is next on the agenda. How much more can we take? God knows I can’t take any more. I have had enough. Life is what we make of it. Not what the government, TV, and big corporations make of it. What they forget is we make them. All of them!! Without us, government has no civilians. Without us, media has no viewers. Without us, corporations have no consumers.

There was a time not too long ago that Americans stood together to put a stop to things that they were not happy with. But now, you are lucky to stand with your neighborhood on an HOA decision. We have become so callused. We don’t know our neighbors. We have road rage, we trample people for Black Friday sales, we hate people that are different than what we see in the mirror. We have White, Black, Asian, Indian, Jew, Native American, gay, straight, Christian, Muslim, rich, poor, have, have not, Joe the plumber. I mean what the hell has happened to us America? I refuse to stand by a title that you give me. I am an American! I will stand by you. I will give my life to save yours though I know you not. I will give you a place to sleep when you have not one. I will call you brother or sister. I am not a soldier, I am not rich, nor am I in poverty. I have had the good life, I have lived on the street in the dead of winter. I have seen the best and worst of people. All you are to me is my countrymen and women. Saggy pants, or Armani suits, without these we are equals. When the towers fell, we were equals. And today, we are still. I can only hope that more people will see this and forget about all of the trials and tribulations of the last several years. When all else is lost, we will still have each other. At least, I hope we do.

From the Christian theorists, to the Mayan Calender and more, the year 2012 spells out the end for us. At least as we know it. The idea is tossed around that the earth may die, we as humans may die, or a incredible change will come upon us. No matter the outcome, these predictions indicate that our lives as we know them will be forever changed in the year 2012.

There is a movie coming out next summer called “2012.” You can see the trailer here under the Movies tab. This is something that I have heard about for years. No, not the movie, but what the movie is about. The almost mystical significance to the year 2012. From the Christian theorists, to the Mayan Calender and more, the year 2012 spells out the end for us. At least as we know it. The idea is tossed around that the earth may die, we as humans may die, or an incredible change will come upon us. No matter the outcome, these predictions indicate that our lives as we know them will be forever changed in the year 2012.

The movie is based upon the the day that the Mayan calender ends, December 21, 2012. The completion of the thirteenth B’ak’tun cycle in the Long Count of the Mayan calendar. [Wikipedia] Huh? Right. Anyways. There are several other people that have their own thoughts on 2012. This includes, scientists, astrologers and astronomers alike. Astrologer John Jenkins has asserted that on this date, there will be “an extremely close conjunction of the northern hemisphere winter solstice sun with the crossing point of the Galactic equator and the ecliptic”, an event that will not be repeated for thousands of years. [Wikipedia] OK, I have no friggen clue what any of the previous paragraph even said. If you do, Good On Ya!

There is even an entire site dedicated to this exact topic; December212012.com. I believe that considering our economy as it is here in the US and the notion that we are killing the planet, now is the best time ever for this movie to come out. The production company will be feeding on our fears of what has yet to come. A doomsday reminder. Great. Well, movie companies are in it for the money, and I could care less with this one. It appears to be an epic movie, and I love epic movies about the end of the world. Now, hopefully with over 6 months before its planned release date, they won’t screw it up. I have a lot of anticipation time here.

Well, to wrap this up, I am sorry that I did not do a whole lot of research for you on this one, but there are some links above to get you started. Or, just check out this link to the Google search I already did for you. Happy worrying to ya!
